Monkey Punch is an author of comedy mangas, inspired by MAD artists like Sergio Aragones and Harvey Kurtzman. He debuted under his own name, Kazuhiko Katou, working for a publisher that specialized in rental books and magazines. In 1965, he made his debut with 'Playboy School', signing with Eiji Gamuta. He subsequently took on the pen name Monkey Punch. One of his best known serials is 'Rupan Sansei' ('Lupin III'), about the Japanese grandson of French burglar Arsène Lupin, the character from the novels by Maurice Leblanc. It commenced publication in Weekly Manga Action in 1967. In the 1980s, he also came up with the sex-kitten private investigator 'Pinky Panky'.
